It’s that time of the year again. Workplace campaigns are starting to get into full swing, especially the United Way and the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). Many donors choose to give at the end of the year, so it’s a good time to talk about matching gifts, too.

United Way

Some of you have called regarding the United Way campaign and asked why the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias (NFED) is not on the list of choices. We do receive funding from the United Way campaigns mostly through electronic fund transfers directly into our bank account. While we may not be listed, you can write in the NFED for us to receive your payroll deduction. You need our Employer Identification Number (EIN) which is #37-1112496.

Thank you to all who donate through United Way. However, we don’t always receive the donors’ contact information to thank them personally. You have the option to have the charity know your name and address when filling out the United Way form. If you do this, we can personally acknowledge your generous donation.

CFC

The CFC is the world’s largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign with almost 200 campaigns throughout the country and overseas. Pledges can be made by federal civilians, postal and military donors during the campaign session which runs from September 9, 2019 through January 12, 2020. Please, make sure you fill out the necessary requirements online if you are working for the federal government.

The NFED is a proud CFC Partner but is listed as the Skin and Dental Dysfunction Foundation in order to stand out among the pages of “National Foundations.” Our CFC number is #10604.

This also applies to the state campaigns. If you are a state employee, you can make a donation through your payroll. The same info applies to state employees as with federal employees.

Growing Your Gifts

There’s another way that your workplace can help the Foundation. You can double the impact of your gift.

What are matching gifts?

When you donate through our appeals and even some events or if you volunteer for the NFED in some cases, your company or corporation might financially match those donations. When you donate, request the matching gift from your employer by filling out paperwork or filling out the request online on your company’s website.

Most companies usually match donations at a 1:1 ratio but some will match more. Please, don’t overlook this wonderful program. It’s an opportunity for you to get more bang for your buck!

This summer, we were very successful with our Boost the Cure campaign for research but not many donors requested a matching gift from their employer. There is still time. Check if your employer will match!

Why are corporate matching gifts valuable to the NFED?

They are free money. We will receive two donations for the work of soliciting one. Plus, don’t you love, as a donor, knowing that your gifts went twice as far?

Corporate matching gifts are an efficient and straightforward way for companies to build relationships with charities like ours. It is called corporate social responsibility. So please, put in your request after you have donated to the NFED. You will maximize the impact of your donation but without having to open your wallets again to do so. Your donation will go so much further. Easy breezy.
