2019 Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill Logo

Our advocates traveled from 21 states to Washington D.C. for our third NFED Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill on July 17. Their mission? Ask their legislators to co-sponsor the Ensuring Lasting Smiles Act so they can get insurance benefits for their medically necessary dental care to replace and restore teeth.

We were honored to have three of the four lead co-sponsors of the bill take the time in their busy schedules to address our group. Thank you, Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) and Congressman Denver Riggleman (R-VA)!

Watch our advocates in action!

We are also grateful to all of you who took action at home that week. One hundred forty-seven advocates emailed 103 legislators and shared their story. And this doesn’t count others who reached out to Congress on their own and didn’t use our tool. Ongoing communication with Congress is key to getting them on board so keep up the great work!

Training Day

We know that for new advocates, talking to your members of Congress may seem intimidating. But, our families learned everything they needed to know at our training day. They mastered the key talking points and received information to leave behind. We strive to make it as easy as possible for them to advocate!

Take Action

Ally Kelso and Alli Steele are two of our youth advocates who have attended all three of our Day on the Hill events. These tenacious young women are doing their part to get ELSA passed. They have learned that one voice can make a difference.

Next Year

Since ELSA’s clock is ticking, we are planning for our 2020 Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill to be the biggest yet! It will be a crucial time to get Congressional support. We truly need every NFED family in the United States to come and speak up.

Can you imagine if we had hundreds (or even thousands!) of families on Capitol Hill? We can! But, only you can help make that happen. Stay tuned for the dates.

It would be best to get the dates and hotel info ASAP. This way we can all plan in advance.

Hi, Diann. Our team is working to finalize a hotel and dates as soon as possible! We work hard to make sure we get reasonable rates that are affordable for our families. We’ll be sharing as soon as we can. Glad to know you are interested! ~ Jodi NFED, Director, Marketing and Communications
